Hodge Podge

I haven’t really had coffee yet this morning, so here are some random thoughts (and some really bad pictures… sorry about that!).

1. Today is a winter day as only Philly can do it — it’s both raining and sleeting. Yum. I forgot about the black-grey rainy grossness that is Philadelphia in the winter. And I have to say, I’m kinda loving it. I’d love it even more if I didn’t have to go in to school today. But still… the novelty of everything Philly seems to be making me pretty happy these days (now that I’m recovering from a] seeing other people every day; b] in particular, seeing people I knew from my “old life” every day; and c] the amount of walking I used to do in the city… man, I’m out of shape!). I guess I can say now that it feels good to be back. There are still all kinds of things that I miss about the mountains, esp. now that spring is upon us. But I just can’t argue with easily access to fresh mozarella, good beer, and Trader Joe’s.
2. The kittens seem pretty happy too. During the warm spell, I had the windows open (something I could never do in the mountains because of all the coal dust in my town), and Phoebe was loving it.

3. I’ve been knitting quite a bit, too. But it’s way too dark to take pictures today, and if I hold off, I’ll have an FO by the end of the day.
4. If the rain and sleet ever end, I’ll share some photos of my new neighborhood. I took this one yesterday, but the light was already gone and this wintry mix was blowing in.

5. In the meantime, I’m off to do some more unpacking and assemble my new IKEA kitchen storage solutions. Did I mention I have the (cutest) tiniest kitchen ever? Here’s a “before” shot.

Look for the “after” tomorrow.
6. Oh yeah, and further evidence that it’s a small world after all — Turns out, I took a class with the bf of the Knitting Phillistine, way back in the fall of 2003. That was before I started knitting again. Strange. I also got to dork out about musical theater (via e-mail) with Rachel yesterday, which was a blast from the past. Never thought I’d meet anyone who loved The Secret Garden as much as I did! “Clusters of crocus….” (this photo is from yesterday)

7. Happy Friday, y’all!
Even just from those few shots, your neighborhood looks really pretty… and the crocuses: send some up my way! I can’t wait for spring to start in earnest!
Where in Philly are you? (I’m not stalking, just wondering about neighborhoods. Really.)
We’re moving to the area in June and I’m trying to talk my boyfriend into somewhere just outside of Philly (accessable by speedline). Right now we’re mostly looking at places in NJ and a few in Narberth, PA and the nearby area. He wants to be near the city, but I want to be in it, so we’re trying to compromise.
Love your photos, by the way. It’s been in the 70s and sunny here in eastern Tennessee and part me is pining for the sleet and grayness of the Mid-Atlantic in March.
What a wonderful happy kitty picture!!
aw, i was going to ask how your kitties were handling the move. i’m glad they’re happy !
and your kitchen does look really cute…i can’t wait to see the ‘after’ picture.
Hi Jennie! I do believe you are going to get it (re:my blog contest/question)
I completely 100% agree about the Bellini section (what’s up with that? a little historical background is nice, if you have no knowledge (which I do, but that’s beside the point) but to then include nothing on the pieces? It is inconsistant at best) and it doesn’t have to do with the song translations (I have a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish but not enough to be able to critique it). So what does that leave? (It’s really blatent, at least to me.)
PS I think working in any aspect of classical music is *really cool*.
