Sound Swap is here!
Apr 4th, 2007 by jennie
At long last, it’s time — I’m ready for Sound Swap sign-ups (I can tell already I’m gonna have a good time with alliteration!)

[Don’t worry — all my music isn’t classical. Just these records. But aren’t they pretty?]
What is Sound Swap?
Sound Swap arose from my desperate need for new music. Several of you out in the blog-o-sphere seem pretty hip to new music, and I thought it would be fun for some of us to get together and trade CDs. That way, we all win — new tunes, new friends. The Sound Swap is a mixed CD exchange (no fiber this time, folks. Maybe in the future though). You’re also encouraged to get creative with your CD cover art (as I wrote earlier, there’s nothing I miss more than the creative collage of mix-tape culture… let’s not let that disappear in the digital age, eh?). Any and all craftiness/spoiling of swap-ee (i.e. chocolate or coffee) is devilishly encouraged.
Can I play?
Of course you can! In order to participate, you need to be a music listener and lover, and you need to have the technology (or access to the technology) to make and burn a mix CD. You can be from the US, Canada, Australia, Russia, Pakistan, Timbuktu, I don’t care! All the more music to know you by.
What are the rules?
They’re pretty simple.
1. In order to participate, you must make a mix CD of 14-21 songs (this seems like a reasonable length).
2. In the name of good mix making (and to at least be reasonably ethical about this), you cannot put more than one song by any given artist on the mix.
3. Lest there be any confusion, the music on your mix does not need to be “new.” I, for one, listen to a pretty healthy mix of stuff recorded before 1950 (classic country and jazz, for example) and music that just came out. It should just be songs you think are awesome and want to share.
4. I know that I’m not one for making mixes of a single genre or anything. But it’s nice to have a “theme” to a mix. This can be anything from the general (”songs that make me rock out” or “things I heard this year that I loved”) to the specific (”songs to knit to” or “songs about the color blue”). You get the point. Be creative!
5. You absolutely must follow through on your commitment to make a CD. If you sign up and find that you can’t participate, for whatever reason, let me know ASAP. But don’t sign up if you’re gonna flake out.
The details:
If you want to sign up, e-mail me (twinknitATgmailDOTcom) or comment below (be sure to include your e-mail address!). I’ll send you a questionnaire about your musical likes and dislikes (and whether you’re willing to mail overseas… it costs a little more, but might be sonically worth it). Once I’ve received your questionnaire, I’ll match you up with someone and pass along the questionnaires to the interested parties. No, you will not be swapping CDs directly with the person for whom you are making mix. It’s more fun to get more people involved, and then you have more musical friends. No, you don’t need to be a knitblogger or a blogger of any kind to participate. But if you are, that’s cool too. And no, I can’t guarantee you’re gonna love the mix you get, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
CDs must be made and swapped by Wednesday, May 16th. Mostly because I like the sound of May 16th as a date. If this seems ridiculously early, let me know. But a month seems like plenty of time to make a good mix.
Sign ups are open until next Wednesday, April 11th, or until the number of people becomes unmanageably large (for now, let’s say that’s 28 people. This is my first swap, after all).
Oh, and while you’re at it, check out these totally rad (yeah, I say rad. So?!?) buttons that Leah made for us (thanks Leah — *you’re* rad!). Feel free to steal one (although, purty please, save it to your own server before using!).

Happy Listening!

i’m excited…i love making a good cd cover.
You know I’m in!!!
I’m so torn. I want new music, but I am pretty much incapable of making a mix, since all my music is trapped in my iPod (I deleted everything from my computer; what was I thinking?). I will debate a bit more and see if I can scrape something together; I’ve got til next Wednesday to decide, after all. This is a great idea!

Every body admits that humen’s life is high priced, but some people require money for various stuff and not every man gets enough money. Thence to get fast credit loans and just college loan would be a correct way out.

I cut off the sun, it grin, fell on the windowsill, I hear “he does not love me.”
He would write when I said: You have to rest. And then fell asleep himself.
