Spectrum Sunday

First and foremost — I feel so terrible about my Ravelry outing yesterday. Chris’s comment about being the last picked for kickball went straight to my heart. I didn’t mean to rub it in (if I did)… I begged Veronique for that invite ’cause she had abn extra to give away (and you know I need more to distract me from dissertation writing!). If I had invites, I’d dole them out. I’m pretty sure you can sign up for an invite, and I think the whole thing is gonna be public soon, so… I’m SORRY! I won’t talk about it anymore (except to say that after I finished my writing last night, I stayed up way too late uploading stuff onto it and surfing around. Y’all are gonna love it!)
Check it:

Pattern: Ampersand Socks, from Knitting Through the Loops (the pattern is free on her sidebar)
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill in “Monet”
Needles: Inox dpns, US 1.5
Thoughts: I think of these as my Project Spectrum socks. ’cause they are. I bought this yarn months ago and had it stashed away for myself. When this round of Project Spectrum began, I knew I needed to use it. The Ampersand pattern seemed great for variegated yarn (a lot like Jaywalkers in that way) and so I dove right in. I love the yarn (though it looked much more muted on the skein… these are a little intensely pastely for me. But they’re on my feet, so who cares) and I love the pattern, but I’m so not happy with my knitting. For some reason, my ssk’s and my k2togs aren’t equally tight, and I get a column between my knit stitches and my k2togs.

It looks sloppy and bothers me. I can’t figure out why, either (which might bother me more than the sloppiness). It’s not a tension issue. I didn’t have a break between my dpns there. And this has never happened before. It’s all I can see when I look at them. I’m hoping it will relax with wear and not be so obvious — they look great when they’re not on my feet. And the eye of partridge heel is absolutely delicious in this yarn.

I highly recommend the pattern — only modification I made was to use a twisted 1×1 rib, which I do all the time now.
And, ’cause I’ve been all into Project Spectrum lately:

Don’t be fooled by the fluffiness of this puppy — she’s really ferocious. She is, afterall, a South Philly dog.
Now I’m going to go lie down. I threw out my back yesterday. How, you might ask? Get this — by sitting at my desk for too long. Hard chair. Bad posture. Ravelry karma? Who knows.
I hope your back feels better, soon! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to leave you feeling bad - it was just weird, I was SO far behind in bloglines and as I was catching up, I started to feel the Ravelry boat passing me by!! Hee hee - I would’ve done the SAME thing and begged an invite, if I knew anyone who had any. And I wouldn’t have been looking for/fearing a karmic smackdown, either.
That said - the Ampersands are SERIOUSLY gorgeous. Love love love them.
I think those socks are gorgeous … I really like how the colours meander through it!
