weird things and grrrr…
May 19th, 2007 by jennie
I’ve been tagged by both Minty and Juliana for the re-circulating “weird things/random facts” meme. So here goes:
“Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.”
1. I don’t think of myself as a very high-maintenance person, particularly when it comes to food. But my friends tell me that when they tally my off-hand comments about my food likes and dislikes, I can be pretty picky. For example, I like most nuts, but I don’t like nuts in things (i.e. bread, cookies, peanut butter, chocolate, etc.). I don’t like meat on pizza, although I like both pizza and most pizza-meats (sausage, pepperoni, etc). I inconsistantly state a preference for and aversion to ice cream (depends on my mood). I hate mayonaise, but will eat it in chicken and tuna salad, blts, and occasionally (and unpredictably) on turkey sandwiches. You get the point…
2. I’m 27 years old and yesterday I got my first “big girl bed” (i.e. anything other than a twin). I slept diagonally last night. *love*

[check out my quilt — I bought that when I was living in the mountains and only now do I have a bed big enough to really do it justice. It’s probably from the 60’s or 70’s and was hand quilted. I love it. And it looks rockin’ with my cedar chest. Pardon the living room lamp on my bedside table and the large blank wall behind my bed — I have plans for both, but I’m slow at getting around to setting up my bedroom post-move]
3. As I stated before, I’m 27 years old and (this is embarassing) I still sleep with moo-moo. Who’s moo-moo, you might ask? Why, my bunny blanket, of course!

I’ve had some version of moo-moo since my first birthday. The first moo-moo was actually named yah-yah and was blue and white. I wore out the first yah-yah when I was five or so, and got a new one. That one was renamed moo-moo. I had that blue moo-moo until it started falling apart when I was 10 or so. As a joke, my parents got me this moo-moo for Christmas one year. Little did they know… Yep. 27. Still sleeping with a moo-moo. I mostly just cram her under my neck for support when I sleep. Now I feel embarassed… My parents still have the first two moo-moos and like to joke about framing them and giving them to me as a gift, each with a little sign in the corner that reads “break in case of emergency.” Now I’m embarassed…
4. Like Juliana, I don’t mind doing the dishes, laundry, etc. But I hate putting dishes, clothes, etc. away.
5. I’m a total beer snob. I’ve mentioned this before, but I feel like it can’t be emphasized enough. It’s rare these days that I go to a non-micro-brewery and find beer that I’ve never had before. I don’t like dubbel-bocks, wheat beer of any kind and, strangely, most british beers. But I love funky belgians, good germans, and lately, I.P.A’s. Anyone who knew me four years ago would find this list kinda shocking, since my taste in beer has made a 180-degree turn-around in the last several years. Go figure.
6. This should be kinda obvious, but I’m a twin (and thus the blog title). My twin brother, Adam, (in the header-picture, with my dad) has Fragile X syndrome. He’s awesome — he loves to wear suits and shake hands. He’s a total pro at just about any video game you sit him down in front of. He’s the reason why, in high school, I knew the words to most Disney movies (cool) and the lyrics to every Barney song (ugh). He’s definitely the athlete in my family and is a really, really good bowler (can’t emphasize this enough. He kicks my ass bowling every time — although, I suppose, that isn’t saying much, since I’m a pretty terrible bowler). Adam has asked Cinderella (at Disney World) to marry him at least twice. Gotta love the guy for going after what he wants.
7. Mints make me sneeze. All of them (last night I had a mint-flavored tums, and even that made me sneeze). Every. Single. Time. Not sure what the deal is with that.
I know I’m supposed to tag seven people, but this has circulated pretty far and wide. Sorry not to pass the buck, but if you want to give it a whirl, go for it (and let me know in the comments so I can go check it out!!).
On knitting related things, I have one thing to say: grrrrr…..

[as if I weren’t having enough motivation problems with Orangina…]
Last night, apparently, the cats thought it would be fun to kill my yarn. I say, kitty killing = killed kitties. Good thing they’re so darn cute. It’s hard to stay mad at them for long.

Um. I might still sleep with a bear I’ve had since I was five. Maybe.
And I might have a bear that I’ve had since I was 10 on my bed, too. Maybe.
Thanks for sharing your 7! I definitely learned new things about you.
I’m sure moo-moo is very happy in the big girl bed! That quilt is just stunning.
I’m a beer snob too but it comes from studying abroad in Belgium. And if my parents hadn’t conspired to take my blanket from me when I was 8, I’m sure I would still have it today. Mine was called Munnerbow. Who knows where kids get those names.
I love that quilt. I’ve bookmarked your post because I want to learn how to quilt this summer and your quilt seems less complicated (and prettier) than the patterns I’ve seen so far.
Aw, they are amazingly cute. Mayhem uses that same cute thing on me when she nips through my yarn… We’re suckers, aren’t we?!
I’m so glad you liked the yarn! Now I’ll know where to send all the yarn I become too emotionally involved with to sell but know I won’t get to myself! I’m sorry your kitties are being destructive. When I first started those over the knee stockings a sweet little dog decided to go wool munching and snapped some of my needles too. They need to write a book of animal restraint knits.
no crunchy in my smooth!
and hello moo-moo!
My beer pickiness is a bit like your food pickiness, though a lot less specific, and my blankie is a little quilt I made last summer (or the knitted afghan from a couple years ago)–and I wasn’t a kid who needed her blankie to sleep. None of my family members have proposed to any Disney characters, though. Thanks for sharing your 7!
congratulations on the new bed! and thanks for sharing your seven random things - it was fun to read!
Like your minty sneezing, pretzels make me hiccup every time I eat them!
Oh poor yarn!!
I love when people post these meme’s! Such an interesting peek into their lives!
Moo-moo is adorable! I still have my sock monkey “Mr. Monkey” (yeah I wasn’t very creative naming him) though I don’t sleep with him anymore… I did til I moved in with Isaac!
Bad kitties! I love the orangina (it is an orangina isn’t it?) - what yarn are you using? It’s a fantastic colour.
Don’t be embarassed by your blanket! I’m 20 and I still keep my baby blanket on my bed most (if not every) night. I’m only on my second, though, and it was hand crocheted by my granny!
i’m a twin, too! but i have a twin sister (identical). anyway, just wanted to let you know that i love your header picture and i think it’s cool that your brother has asked cinderella to marry him (twice).
