Today I took stock, and I clearly have a problem.

That’s seven pairs of socks, unfinished. And I keep wanting to cast on for new ones. It seems I’ve also become an unwitting member of the single sock liberation movement.

That’s ok. But I think maybe it’s time to tie up some loose ends and move on. I’ve been feeling this push in many fronts of my life lately, and I think maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing to carry this over to my knitting. Then I can launch into new projects with a fresh start, my favorite needles, and optomism for the future.
The plan of action?
1. Baby’s Bootikin (thanks to the fantastically fantastic Christine, who sent me her leftover Regia, along with some delicious chocolate)
2. Sara’s Socks — because Regia Bamboo is a great summer yarn, and because they were a Christmas present. As in last Christmas (sheepish grin).
3. Leyburn #2, because I really love the pattern, the yarn, the whole caboodle.
4. New England Socks. I might dislike the yarn/pattern combo, but 14 months is too long for one sock to go un-mated.
5. I think those Dalarna socks are going to get RIIIIIPED. Because I’ve learned my lesson — Knit picks Gloss does not make durable socks.
6. Regia Knee socks… these are nice things to knit on now and again. I’ll just plug along when I feel like it. No rush.
7. I have tried to love magic loop. Before I give it up for good, I’m going to treat myself to an addi-turbo birthday-circular and see if having a great needle makes me like it more. If so, then the Hawaii socks will probably fly off the needles (fingers crossed).
Once I’ve knocked out three or four pairs, I’ll cast on for a new one. I’ve got the yarn. I’ve got patterns in mind. Can’t wait.
I leave you with my fav photo of the week. On Sunday, a friend and I drove out to New Hope, PA/Lambertville, NJ. The weather was incredible, the river sparkled, the trees were lush and green and summery. It was a beautiful day.

That is a really cool bridge picture!
Go go go go go - you can conquer those darn single socks.
OK, you just have to think on the bright side. When else can you do so little work and get 7 whole pairs of socks out of it? If you only have to knit 7 socks to get 7 pairs, that’s a deal, isn’t it???
I know you don’t like the combo but I *LOVE* the New England socks!!!!!!!! I’ve been meaning to crack that pattern but I want to make NE socks for MEEEEEEEEEEEEE so it’ll be a while before I get around to them. *sigh*
I think I am a member of this singles group:) I just love to move on to the next sock - all the while promising myself I’ll finish a pair next… I just love that bootikins - darling! Maybe I’ll start one of those next…doh!:)
Just consider that participation in the Single Sock Liberation movement (either witting or unwitting) is a tremendous benefit to blog readers. We get to see so many pretty socks in so many different yarns so much faster!
I’m actually kind of impressed, but don’t let me stop you… it’ll feel good to finish a few pairs.
this is actually why i should probably not knit socks. i know once i started i would want to try lots of different patterns and yarns and i would definitely NOT want to make two of the same sock before trying a new one. more power to you!
New Hope is one of my favorite areas! OK, moving on to socks . . . I think the real motivation is freeing up your a) needles and b) mind. That’s what I love about the UFO resurrection.
I love your picture - it is graphic and beautiful. Also your socks are beautiful - even unfinished they make fine specimens.
They are all so pretty! Best of luck with giving them all friends.
And if you end up in that area of NJ again, let me know. That’s pretty much my neck of the woods.
i LOVE the new england socks. i’ve had my eye on that pattern for a while. what don’t you like about the sock/pattern combo here?
All of the socks look great, and I’m with the others… I can’t figure out why you aren’t TOTALLY satisfied with the New England socks! They look fantastic to me. As for the Single Sock Movement, the Movement certainly works best with a revolving membership. It would be a sad, sad world with nothing but mateless socks (or a very clownish world with paired, but unmatching socks). So I say yes! get some mates to those beauties!
My husband and I had our first date in New Hope 29 years ago. Ahhhh, the memories.
Love all your socks. You have quite a variety and they are ALL beautiful!
Yay - I’m glad you got the yarn, and hopefully the chocolate didn’t melt all over it. Can’t wait to see some of those pairs.
What you really need to do is get those socks out there into the world so they can meet mates! Then they won’t be lonely any longer. :g:
The Lambertville/New Hope area is so amazing–have you been to the French bakery in NH? Too fabulous…
You singletons are all beauts, I love the Dalarna pattern but I agree that KP yarn is a disappointment at times:(
I found you from Minty’s blog. I’m glad I did. All your single socks are lovely, and I think you have a great plan of attack. The Baby’s Bootkin is adorable; much prettier than the example in the book.
