[twiddling thumbs]
Jul 23rd, 2007 by jennie
For the last three nights, I have woken at 5:30 in the morning, been awake for twenty minutes or so, and then fallen back asleep. In each of these instances of wakefulness, I have thought about the fact that it’s been over a week since I last blogged. Today, in a fit of TCB, I decided that blogging would happen. Maybe tonight I won’t wake from a dead sleep for no reason mere hours before I intend to wake anyway.
There are a few reasons I haven’t been blogging recently.
1. This dissertation chapter is kicking my ass.

Kicking. My. Ass.
2. It’s been hot here and I haven’t felt much like knitting. The knitting I have been doing is, well, boring to post about. I’m turning the heel of the New England Sock (trust me, there will be a partay when it’s done). I’m finishing Baby Bootikin #2 (why it’s taking me so long to finish? We’ll never know). I wound yarn for Leyburn #2 (anyone see a trend here). Today’s weather is positively autumnal, and so on breaks from fits of cleaning, I turned the heel of my second Regia knee sock. Otherwise? Ain’t much shakin’.

3. There have been (ahem) distractions.

I find myself, recently, in the companionship of a particularly wonderful boy. Said boy has bought and is renovating a particularly wonderful house. I have lately been jonesing for manual labor (I swear, writing a dissertation will make highway construction seem like an appealing job) and have been fighting for well over a year now some serious nesting urges. So said house has come at a perfectly opportune time. In the moments not hating my dissertation, I have been ripping up linoleum, hanging insulation, making umpteen trips to Lowes and contemplating bathroom tile. JOY!
4. I celebrated my birthday (but don’t worry — it isn’t actually until Wednesday). Two more days before I turn 28!

Tomorrow I head south. I’ll spend my birthday with my twin brother and then I’m off to Kentucky for a few fiddler’s conventions. I hope to be able to post from the mountains — I will certainly post while in Virginia. But if not, I promise I’ll see you all of the flip side (after I catch up on my bloglines… sheesh!).
ooh… a boy!
how exciting! happy early birthday - have a wonderful day. having been 28 now for 39 days now, i can say with confidence that it’s not so bad.
Happy early birthday! Hmmm… a boy?! Much more interesting than knitting!
Happy, happy birthday to you and your brother. May you both enjoy the day!
Oh, man, isn’t linoleum-ripping one of the most satisfying things EVER? Hooray for renovating! Particularly in the company of a lovely boy.
And of course, Happy Birthday!!
Is it completely wierd that the first thing I thought when seeing the photo of the handsome man on the ladder was ‘ooh! nice architraves!’
Professional hazard!
Looks like you’re managing to have heaps of fun despite the lack of knitting!
Hippy happy hoopy birthday to you!
All the best with your dissertation. I defended almost two weeks ago and am just making the final changes to mine! IT DOES END!
Happy Birthday!!
Hope you have a lovely birthday with your brother. This year (at 31) my sister and I spent our first birthday really apart. We’ve had a few years of not seeing each other until a day or two later, but this year it was two weeks later. It was not fun. Twins should always celebrate birthdays together. Hope you have a great one and that things go well with your dissertation, your boy and your second sock knitting.
28 is a good age, enjoy it. Keep plugging away on your dissertation, you’ll get there, good luck!
Life chez Twinknit sounds exciting (if busy)!!!! I agree that some physical labor does wonders for the mind!!!
Oo, happy birthday! And happy nesting!
Happy Birthday! You’re a neighbor of mine on Ravelry (4 designs in common!) and I was glad to see you’re a musician too. Nice blog, I’ll be back!
Happy birthday, Jennie! It makes perfect sense to me that you’re getting a thrill out of physical labour while you should be writing. It’s like the X-treme version of housecleaning while procrastinating on writing a short paper, no?
Happy Birthday!! Having a boy around who fixes things is never bad.
Love the socks too.
Enjoy your trip!
You and my mom have the same birthday. Sorry I didn’t email or comment yesterday!! Happy happy, Jennie. I’m so happy we’ve become friends.
Congrats on the boy
